WhatsApp ends support for dozens of older phones

Ana sayfa / Technology

Older smartphones that are not updated by their manufacturers are becoming unusable by popular applications. In its latest update, WhatsApp announced that it will end support for dozens of older Android and iOS models as of October 24.

WhatsApp drops support for Android 4.1 and older devices

WhatsApp said in a statement that it regularly reviews which operating systems it supports. It said it is focusing its efforts on platforms used by the majority of users. Accordingly, as of October 24, WhatsApp will no longer be available on Android 4.1 or older models.

Considering that there are hundreds of older models in the Android world, it’s hard to say which devices will be affected. However, more than 15 “legendary” models are likely to lose WhatsApp support. These include the Samsung Galaxy S2 and S3 Mini.

WhatsApp native app finally coming to iPad

One of the issues that has been requested for a long time and users complained about was the Whatsapp iPad app.

Manufacturers such as Samsung, LG and Huawei have included various models dating back to 2013 in this list. If you are using an Android 4.1 or older phone (you may be keeping it as a backup device), it may be time to buy a new phone.

The affected devices are thought to be used by hundreds of people worldwide. However, WhatsApp estimates that they represent a small minority of the app’s overall user base. Let us remind you that support will be discontinued as of October 24.
